Always engrossed in Rati's husband's wiles,

He radiates tender and charming smiles;

He is, as it were, swept off in a trance,

By rolling waves of Radha's side-long glance;

His pleasing countenance shines like the moon,

Glows like a cloud and wears a peacock plume.

In leafy bower groves, fragrant and bright,

Kunjavihari Krishna takes delight. 1

Responsive to the woodwind and the string,

With beat of drum, Krishna, the dancer king,

While fresh damsels in a circle surround,

Dances with them to the symphonic sound;

And so he shines with those sweet damsels there,

Along the bank of the Sun-daughter fair.

In leafy bower groves, fragrant and bright,

Kunjavihari Krishna takes delight. 2

When the peacock warbles from his blue throat

The first note, the parrot sings the fifth note,

Then Krishna on his flute begins to play,

And doth the gamut of the notes display;

He is adorned with musk; and when they hear

He captivates all in the triple sphere.

In leafy bower groves, fragrant and bright,

Kunjavihari Krishna takes delight. 3

With soft fingers like tendrils of the vine,

He doth his hand with Radha's hand entwine;

Leisurely in the joy of love they rove,

And stray within a blooming flower grove;

While young damsels of Vraja, in good cheer,

Sing their praises with voices loud and clear.

In leafy bower groves, fragrant and bright,

Kunjavihari Krishna takes delight. 4

What time the peacock dances in delight,

He is astonished by the pleasing sight;

The bamboo resonating in the breeze,

And dulcet humming of the honey bees,

All render such service him to adore,

In groves, on hills and by the river shore.

In leafy bower groves, fragrant and bright,

Kunjavihari Krishna takes delight. 5

When the male and female parrots, elate,

The couples' confidential deeds relate,

And secrets of their amorous repose,

In all directions in their song disclose,

Wrought up with curiosity to hear,

He, smiling, whispers into Radha's ear.

In leafy bower groves, fragrant and bright,

Kunjavihari Krishna takes delight. 6

"Your rolling tresses," said Krishna, "deride

The plumage of the peacock fanning wide;

The black buck of the forest in surprise,

Honours the beauty of your lotus-eyes;

And swarming bees in praise loudly declare,

The glory of your sable glossy hair."

In leafy bower groves, fragrant and bright,

Kunjavihari Krishna takes delight. 7

He is waited upon attentively,

By damsels wrought up in cupidity;

Who serve him and the sweet lessons impart,

In all particulars of loving art;

On Radha's shoulder, how with tender grace,

Where hair had tumbled, there his arm to place.

In leafy bower groves, fragrant and bright,

Kunjavihari Krishna takes delight. 8

Whoever these eight charming verses reads,

That tell of his incomparable deeds,

And doth contented study and recite

How in the bower groves he takes delight;

That one by pious Radhika adored

Confers a great and wonderful reward,

And as the monarch of the bowers sweet,

He leads and draws them to his lotus-feet. 9

Thus ends Sri Rupa's second Kunjaviharyastakam
