Sri Sad Gosvami Astakam

Attached to loudly singing Krishna's name,

Dancing in celebration of his fame;

As oceans of love's nectar they appear,

To both the wise and to the restless dear;

Great deeds of kindness they act to fulful,

Devoid of malice and most worshipful;

Abundance of Chaitanya's grace they bear,

And bring that grace for all the world to share;

I bow to Rup-Sanatan, Raghus twain,

To Sri Jiva, Gopal and all their train. 1

Expert in diverse holy scriptures they

Established well the true and righteous way;

The agents of grace with compassion fraught,

Worshipful and for refuge to be sought;

They are intoxicated by love sweet

Worshipping Radha-Krishna's lotus-feet.

I bow to Rup-Sanatan, Raghus twain,

To Sri Jiva, Gopal and all their train. 2

Sri Gauranga's fair graces they describe,

Augmenting the faith of those who imbibe,

They relieve sinners of their suffering,

When the sweet songs of Govinda they sing;

They swell the ocean of pure ecstasy,

And save from impersonal unity.

I bow to Rup-Sanatan, Raghus twain,

To Sri Jiva, Gopal and all their train. 3

They forsook high office in government,

And viewed as worthless all emolument;

In humble compassion themselves they deck,

In simple cloth with scarf around the neck;

Immersed and swept off in the nectar-sea

Of cowherd damsel's loving ecstasy.

I bow to Rup-Sanatan, Raghus twain,

To Sri Jiva, Gopal and all their train. 4

In Vrindavan where feathered songsters coo,

The kokila, the swan, and peacock's mew;

Where at the roots of luxuriant trees,

Are platforms and gem studded canopies,

And there with intense worship in delight,

They praise Radha and Krishna day and night;

In adorations' rapture and content,

They grant of life ultimate fulfilment.

I bow to Rup-Sanatan, Raghus twain,

To Sri Jiva, Gopal and all their train. 5

All of their time they spend in worshipping,

They count his name, bow down, his praises sing;

They eat and sleep little, always content,

Victorious, forsaking enjoyment;

They are almost deranged by ecstasies,

Recalling Radha-Krishna's qualities.

I bow to Rup-Sanatan, Raghus twain,

To Sri Jiva, Gopal and all their train. 6

Sometimes upon the shore of Radha's lake,

Then to Kalindi's bank their way betake,

Or in the shades of Vamsivata tree,

They wander round in divine ecstasy;

Possessed by mad frenzy in their roaming,

Of Hari's divine qualities they sing;

Absorbed in varied sentiments divine,

They are wrought up in ecstasy sublime.

I bow to Rup-Sanatan, Raghus twain,

To Sri Jiva, Gopal and all their train. 7

O Radhe! Vraja's Goddess! Lalite!

O Nanda's darling son! Where do you stray?

At Govardhan? do tell us if you please,

Or underneath the wish-fulfilling trees?

Or in the forest by Kalini's shore?

Thus calling in great lament they implore;

In Vraja's town in fond longing they pine,

And relish thus the highest bliss divine.

I bow to Rup-Sanatan, Raghus twain,

To Sri Jiva, Gopal and all their train. 8

Thus ends Sri Sad (Six) Gosvami Astakam of Srinivasa Acharya done into heroic couplets by Madanamohana Dasa.
