yasya śrīmac-caraṇa-kamale komale komalāpi
śrī-rādhoccair nija-sukha-kṛte sannayantī kucāgre |
bhītāpy ārād atha nahi dadhāty asya kārkaśya-doṣāt
sa śrī-goṣṭhe prathayatu sadā śeṣa-śāyī sthitiṁ naḥ ||91||
Although she takes great joy to softly rest
Her lover’s lotus-feet upon her breast,
Sri Radha is yet fraught with anxious care,
His tender feet might not her hard breast bear.
May he allow us always there to bide,
And in the cowherd settlement reside,
Who always with a divine lustre shines
When on the coils of Shesha he reclines. 91
yatra kāma-saraḥ sākṣād gopikā-ramaṇaṁ saraḥ |
rādhā-mādhavayoḥ preṣṭhaṁ tad-vanaṁ kāmyakaṁ bhaje ||92
Let us worship the Kama forest hight,
Where Radha and Madhava take delight,
Where cowherd damosels much pleasure take,
Where shines the Kama-sarovara lake. 92
mallīkṛtya nijāḥ sakhīḥ priyatamā garveṇa sambhāvitā
mallībhūya mad-īśvarī rasa-mayī mallatvam utkaṇṭhayā |
yasmin samyag-upeyūṣā baka-bhidā rādhā niyuddhaṁ mudā
kurvāṇā madanasya toṣam atanod bhāṇḍīrakaṁ taṁ bhaje ||93||
My Goddess when she playfully contends
In bouts of wrestling with her bosom friends,
She then displays a haughty wrestler’s pride,
But when a round the foe of Baka tried,
A skirmish ensued and amorous fight,
Which afforded Cupid immense delight.
Let us worship that place with bowing down,
And as the great forest Bhandira known. 93
ākṛṣṭā yā kupita-halinā lāṅgalāgreṇa kṛṣṇā
dhīrā yāntī lavaṇa-jaladhau kṛṣṇa-sambandha-hīnā |
adyāpītthaṁ sakala-manujair dṛśyate saiva yasmin
bhaktyā vande’dbhutam idam aho rāma-ghaṭṭaṁ pradeśam ||94||
When the Plough-wielder into a rage flew,
He with the tip of his plough forceful drew
The Dark river, for the indignity
Shown him, to drag her to the briny sea.
There men can see unto this very day
Where Rama dragged the river from its way.
Devoutly and with wonder and delight,
I bow at that place, Rama Ghatta hight. * 94
prāṇa-preṣṭha-vayasya-vargam udare pāpīyaso’ghāsura-
syāraṇyodbhaṭa-pāvakotkaṭa-viṣai`r duṣṭe praviṣṭaṁ puraḥ |
vyagraḥ prekṣya ruṣā praviśya sahasā hatvā khalaṁ taṁ balī
yatrainaṁ nijam ārarakṣa murajit sā pātu sarpa-sthalī ||95||
When his fond favourite friends had by mistake
Entered the belly of Agha the snake,
Whose virulent contagious poison dire
Burned with the heat of blazing forest fire;
He seeing this, to effect their rescue,
The foe of Mura the great demon slew.
May that place afford protection to me,
Where died the serpent hight Sarpa-sthali. 95
draṣṭuṁ sākṣāt svapati-mahimodrekam utkena dhātrā
vatsa-vrāte drutam apahṛte vatsapālotkare ca |
tat-tad-rūpo harir atha bhavan yatra tat-tat-prasūnāṁ
modaṁ cakre’śanam api bhaje vatsahāra-sthalīṁ tām ||96||
Eager his Master’s glory to survey,
The Maker stole the calves and boys away.
To bring to the cows and the mothers joy
Hari assumed form of each calf and boy.
I worship at that place and bow me down,
Which is as Vatsa-hara-sthali known. 96
bāḍhaṁ vatsaka-vatsapāla-hṛtito jātāparādhād bhayair
brahmā sāsram apūrva-padya-nivahair yasmin nipatyāvanau |
tuṣṭāvādbhuta-vatsapaṁ vraja-pateḥ putraṁ mukundaṁ manāk
smeraṁ bhīru-caturmukhākhyam aniśaṁ seśaṁ pradeśaṁ numaḥ ||97||
Having stolen the boys and calves, the god
Prostrated in repentance like a rod;
Then with exquisite verses glorifies
The son of Vraja’s king, with tearful eyes;
And pleased hearing his praises sung the while
Mukunda stood before him with a smile.
Let us offer praises all day and night,
Where the Four-faced his praises did recite. 97
gandha-vyākula-bhṛṅga-sañcaya-camū-saṁghṛṣṭa-puṣpotkarai
rbhājat kalpa-latā palāśi-nikarair vibhrājitāni sphuṭam |
yāni sphāra-taḍāga-parvata-nadī-vṛndena rājanty aho
kṛṣṇa-preṣṭha-vanāni tāni nitarāṁ vande muhur dvādaśa ||98||
The sweet fragrance conveyed upon the breeze,
Intoxicates swarms of plundering bees,
Who like storm troopers ravish all the flowers,
On wishing-vines around the leafy bowers.
There are expansive lakes and lofty hills,
Flowing rivers and glistening bubbling rills;
The twelve forests delightsome thus appear,
Which are to Krishna exceedingly dear.
May I always prostrate there and revere. ** 98
pūrṇaḥ prema-rasaiḥ sadā muraripor dāsaḥ sakhā ca priyaṁ
sva-prāṇārbudato’pi tat-pada-yugaṁ hitveha māsān daśa |
prītyā yo nivasaṁs tadīya-kathayā goṣṭhaṁ muhur jīvaya
tyāyātaṁ kila paśya kṛṣṇam iti taṁ mūrdhnā vahāmy uddhavam ||99||
The fond servant and friend, the bon ami,
Full fraught with love for Mura’s enemy,
More dear than millions of his vital airs,
For ten long months his severance he bears;
And in the distant cowherd settlement
He spent his time with joy and brought content;
The narratives of Krishna’s exploits told,
And constantly his qualities extolled.
To the cowherds, who did their life regain,
He said, ‘behold, see Krishna here again!’
I bow and bear the feet upon my head
Of Uddhava, to Krishna beloved. *** 99
mudā yatra brahmā tṛṇa-nikara-gulmādiṣu paraṁ
sadā kāṅkṣan janmārpita-vividha-karmāpy anudinam |
kramād ye tatraiva vraja-bhuvi vasanti priya-janā
mayā te te vandyāḥ param avinayāt puṇya-khacitāḥ ||100||
Where even Brahma, the creator god,
Hopes to take birth and the grass or the sod
In Vraja, or even a bush or shrub,
That they with their feet might his person rub.
Let me salute with pious reverence,
And bow to all in order and sequence,
To dwellers of the Vraja glorified,
Who always in Vraja fondly abide. 100
* Now he, Mighty Bala, intoxicate,
Summoned Yamuna to facilitate
His water sports, and flow near by that spot,
But taking him for drunkard, she did not
Comply with him nor to his summons bow.
Whereat the Mighty One took up his plough,
And out of measure wrath he drew by force
The river, redirecting thus her course.
‘Thou wanton one!’ he said, ‘and dost thou dare,
Defy my summons? Now with my plough share
I shall thy channel in hundreds divide,
Thou sinful one, and humble thy great pride!’
Thus chastised by the Yadu’s darling Lord,
Yamuna, in dread fear, his grace implored,
And bowing at his feet disquieted,
The terrified Yamuna to him said.
‘O Rama, Rama, of the mighty prowess!
I knew not of thy power, I confess,
That by a fraction of thyself doth hold,
As its great Lord, the universal world;
Thy quiddity was to me quite unknown,
O thou most puissant and Almighty One,
But now I have surrendered unto thee,
Who favour the supplicant refugee.
(Sri Suka said)
The Mighty Bala with her prayer was pleased,
And Yamuna was from distress released;
He entered with his females in content
The river like a lusty elephant.

** Bhadra and Sri, Lauha and Bhandira,
Maha and Tala and Khandiraka,
Bahula, Kumuda and Kamyavan,
Madhu and the extensive Vrindavan.
Of these twelve, seven are on the west side
Of Kalindi, whose stream is broad and wide,
The other five upon the east bank lay;
‘Tis said here Krishna acts his secret play.
Padma Purana
*** So long as Uddhava was resident
In Nanda-gopa’s cowherd settlement,
For the cowherds it seemed a moments’ time,
Absorbed in accounts of Krishna sublime.
He saw the rivers, forests, hills and vales,
Flowers, at which Hari’s servant regales;
In the cowherds inspired memory,
Reminding them of Krishna constantly.
