purā premodrekaiḥ pratipada-navānanda-madhuraiḥ
kṛta-śrī-gāndharvācyuta-caraṇa-varyārcana-balāt |
nikāmaṁ svāminyaḥ priyatara-saras-tīra-bhuvane
vasanti sphīta ye ta iha mama jīvātava ime ||101||
Due to excess of affection steadfast,
Having devotion practised in the past,
In worship of Gandharva beautiful,
Along with Acyuta, immutable;
There are some who have my Queen’s grace received,
And residence by her dear lake achieved.
These great and learned ones of self-control,
Are dear to me as my own life and soul. 101
yat kiñcit tṛgulma-kīkaṭa-mukhaṁ goṣṭhe samastaṁ hi tat
sarvānanda-mayaṁ mukunda-dayitaṁ līlānukūlaṁ param |
śāstrair eva muhur muhuḥ sphuṭam idaṁ niṣṭaṅkitaṁ yācñayā
brahmāder api sa-spṛheṇa tad idaṁ sarvaṁ mayā vandyate ||102||
Whatever grass, shrubs and insects are here,
In the settlement of cowherds are dear,
Full fraught with bliss and wondrous fair display,
Where they assist Mukunda in his play.
As scripture over and again repeats
How even Brahma* earnestly entreats
To always dwell here; and others beside,
Devoutly pray in Vraja to reside.
I also bow me down and humbly pray
To all the creatures in Vraja that stay. 102
bhraman cacche kacche kṣiti-dhara-pater vakrima-gatair
lapan rādhe kṛṣṇety anavaratam unmattavad aham |
patan kvāpi kvāpy ucchalita-nayana-dvandva-salilaiḥ
kadā keli-sthānaṁ sakalam api siñcāmi vikalaḥ ||103||
Wandering about here and there at will,
Down the path by lofty Govardhan hill,
Will I exclaim loudly in mad despair,
‘O Radha-Krishna!’ while loitering there?
And stumbling as I go from place to place,
Where he revealed his pastimes and his grace,
When will I in divine ecstasy rove,
And sprinkle those places with tears of love? 103
na brahmā na ca nārado nahi haro na prema-bhaktottamāḥ
samyag jñātum ihāñjasārhati tathā yasyocchalan-mādhurīm |
kintv eko baladeva eva paritaḥ svārdhaṁ sva-mātrā sphuṭaṁ
premnāpy uddhava eṣa vetti nitarāṁ kiṁ sa vrajo varṇyate ||104||
Nor Brahma, Narada, nor Hara too,
Nor great devotees who pure love pursue,
A full knowledge of Vraja comprehend,
Nor can of its quiddity apprehend;
But Baladeva and his mother dear,
Due to their fond love have conception clear.
Then how should it be possible for me,
To tell of its glory adequately? 104
anyatra kṣaṇa-mātram acyuta-pure premāmṛṭāmbho-nidhi
snāto’py acutya-sajjanair api samaṁ nāhaṁ vasāmi kvacit |
kintv atra vraja-vāsinām api samaṁ yenāpi kenāpy alaṁ
saṁlāpair mama nirbharaḥ prati muhur vāso’stu nityaṁ mama ||105||
If even I had opportunity,
To go to Acyuta’s divine city,
And bathe in streams of loving ecstasies,
With Acyuta’s beloved devotees,
I would not there or anywhere betake
Myself, and dwelling in Vraja forsake.
Nay, even let the Vraja people tell
Their gossip, may I always with them dwell. 105
rāgeṇa rūpa-mañjary-āraktīkṛta-muradviṣaḥ |
guṇārādhita-rādhāyāḥ pāda-yugme ratir mama ||106||
With deep passion, Sri Rupa manjari
Attends the mighty Mura’s enemy;
And worships Radha’s fame with love replete;
May I have fond affection for her feet. 106
idaṁ niyatam ādarād vraja-vilāsa-nāma-stavaṁ
sadā vraja-janollasan-madhura-mādhurī-bandhuram |
muhuḥ kutuka-sambhṛtāḥ paripaṭhati ye valgu tat
samaṁ parikarair dṛḍhaṁ mithunam atra paśyanti te ||107||
Whoever doth this hymn daily recite,
Vraja Vilasa Stava, with delight,
Which illustrates the persons and places
Of Vraja, with their charm and fair graces;
And who with eagerness reading maintain,
The divine manifest vision will gain
Of the sweet and amorous couple fair,
Surrounded by their dear companions there. 107
Thus ends Sri Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami’s
Sri Vraja Vilasa Stava
* But my greatest good fortune I declare,
Would be to take birth in Gokula, where
The denizens the forest pathways tread,
That I might take that dust upon my head;
Their life and their being they consecrate
To Mukunda, and themselves dedicate;
And would that they that dust to me convey,
Still sought by scripture to this very day.
Brahma’s hymn, S.B.10.14.34
